How often do you review your goals and how often do you discuss your teams goals and performance with your teams? I personally do not wait until “review time” to discuss with my teams how we are doing and how they are doing. If there is something that is not right, we course correct, make the necessary changes or adjustments and then move forward – we have time each week where the dialogue is open for both sides for any discussions. When it does come to “review time”, there aren’t any surprises from either side and it is more a formality since we have engaged all year long.
